TRAINING STAIRCASE FOR THE DRAGON CHALLENGE
ONE OF THE MOST SPECTACULAR AND JAW DROPPING CHALLENGES LAND ROVER HAVE TAKEN ON WAS WHEN FORMULA E RACING DRIVER HO-PIN TUNG DROVE A RANGE ROVER SPORT PLUG IN HYBRID AROUND THE SINUOUS 99 TURNS OF DRAGON ROAD AND UP THE 45 DEGREE AND 999 STEPS TO HEAVEN’S GATE IN TIANMEN CHINA.
In order to know that this incredible challenge was feasible in the standard vehicle with no enhancements, Land Rover had to test this the feasibility of driving up narrow steps at 45 degrees. D3 were tasked to create and build a test rig in the UK to replicate the exact conditions in China. Working with our engineering partner, we designed a stand-alone 10m long steel frame that had concrete steps built into and stood at 45 degrees. This enabled a full safety test to be conducted prior the main showcase event.
